🦠Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a major problem in the cattle industry, causing economic losses worldwide. It infects cattle and causes mild to severe symptoms, including reproductive losses and immunosuppression. Transmission occurs by a variety of routes, including direct contact and vertical transmission. The virus exists in two forms: non-cytopathic (NCP) and cytopathic (CP), with NCP strains often causing persistent infections. Economic impacts include loss of productivity and veterinary costs. Management includes biosecurity, vaccination and diagnostic testing such as real-time RT-PCR assays. Early detection and targeted control strategies are essential to minimize spread and protect cattle health.

The new InviScreen® BVDV Detection Kit provides a reliable method for qualitatively determining the presence or absence of BVDV RNA in bovine samples, including serum, blood, and milk samples. To extract the RNA, we highly recommend using either the InviSorb® Spin Universal Kit or the RTP® Pathogen Kit. This development represents a significant advance in the identification and management of BVDV in cattle.
