🦠Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a major problem in the cattle industry, causing economic losses worldwide. It infects cattle and causes mild to severe symptoms, including reproductive losses and immunosuppression. Transmission occurs by a variety of routes, including direct contact and vertical transmission. The virus exists in two forms: non-cytopathic (NCP) and cytopathic (CP), with NCP strains often causing persistent infections. Economic impacts include loss of productivity and veterinary costs. Management includes biosecurity, vaccination and diagnostic testing such as real-time RT-PCR assays.
