The Stool Collection Tubes are engineered for efficient and hygienic stool sample collection and DNA stabilisation using a liquid DNA Stabilizer. Each tube includes an integrated spoon, enabling simple and contamination free collection of faecal material. The DNA Stabilizer inactivates DNases, prevents DNA degradation, and pre-lyses bacteria, ensuring that the microbial profile is preserved precisely at the time of collection. DNA remains stable for up to 3 months at room temperature, supporting reliable downstream microbiome analysis and metagenomic workflows.
In addition to high quality DNA recovery, key metabolites – including short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), bile acids, tryptophan derivatives, and other metabolite classes – can be reliably quantified from the same sample. This makes the Stool Collection Tubes ideal for multi omic analyses, enabling integrated metagenomic and metabolomic profiling in a single workflow.
The tubes are optimized for use with the PSP® Spin Stool DNA Basic Kit (manual extraction) and the InviMag®Stool DNA Kit (automated extraction). They are also compatible with widely used third party extraction systems such as the QIAamp Power Fecal Pro DNA Kit (Qiagen), ZymoBIOMICS™ DNA/RNA Miniprep Kit (Zymo) and NucleoSpin® DNA Stool (Macherey-Nagel). For protocol guidance and validated workflows, please refer to the Application Notes in the Resources section below.
For laboratories processing larger sample volumes or requiring flexible preprocessing, the DNA Stabilizer is also available in a 180 ml bulk bottle format. This format supports direct processing of fresh or frozen stool material and is fully compatible with both the PSP® Spin Stool DNA Basic Kit and the InviMag®Stool DNA Kit.

Samples can be stored for up to 3 months at room temperature. For long term storage, samples can be frozen at -20°C or -80°C. It is recommended to homogenize samples well and aliquot prior freezing.
Yes, the Stool DNA Stabilizer as well as the PSP® Spin Stool Basic Kit (RUO application) for sample extraction have been used for animal and veterinary studies. Products have been used for a variety of animals like cattle, goat, birds, or bears.
The Stool Collection Tubes with DNA Stabilizer are optimized for extraction with the PSP® Spin Stool Basic Kit. However, other extraction kits are compatible with the Stool Collection Tubes with DNA Stabilizer as well. Please refer to the respective Invitek Diagnostics application notes.
