Product Details

The Stool Collection Tubes with DNA Stabilizer (CE-IVD) provide a hygienic, reliable solution for stool sample collection and stabilisation in clinical and diagnostic microbiome workflows.

The tubes are pre-filled with DNA Stabilizer that inactivates DNases, prevents DNA degradation, and pre-lyses bacteria and fungi, ensuring that the microbial profile is preserved precisely at the time of collection. Bacterial DNA and fungal DNA remain stable for 3 months at room temperature (15–30 °C), supporting reliable downstream microbiome analysis.

Each tube includes an integrated spoon, enabling simple and contamination free collection of faecal material. Additionally, a separately available Stool Catcher simplifies collection from the toilet. The convenient collection format helps improve usability for sample donors while supporting efficient handling by laboratories and diagnostic providers.

Validated for compatibility with downstream microbiome applications, the Stool Collection Tube with DNA Stabilizer supports workflows including qPCR analysis, 16S rRNA gene sequencing and ITS rRNA gene sequencing. For DNA isolation we recommend using the CE-IVD certified PSP® Spin Stool DNA Basic Kit.

By eliminating the need for a cold chain, it helps simplify sample logistics, reduce temperature-controlled shipping requirements, and support efficient sample handling.

FAQs

  • 1. What are Stool Collection Tubes with DNA Stabilizer used for?

Stool Collection Tubes with DNA Stabilizer are used to collect and preserve stool samples for downstream microbiome and molecular diagnostic workflows. They support applications including 16S rRNA profiling, ITS rRNA profiling, next-generation sequencing (NGS) and quantitative PCR (qPCR).

  • 5. What does the DNA Stabilizer do?

The pre-filled DNA Stabilizer inactivates DNases, helps prevent DNA degradation, and pre-lyses bacteria and fungi. This helps preserve the microbial DNA profile from the time of sample collection until downstream analysis.

  • 6. Which downstream applications are supported?

The tubes support microbiome and molecular biology applications including 16S rRNA gene sequencing, ITS rRNA gene sequencing, NGS and qPCR. The stabilized targets include bacterial DNA and fungal DNA.

  • 7. How much stool sample is required?

The recommended starting material is one integrated spoonful of sample, which is approximately 1 g of stool sample per tube. Users should follow the applicable product instructions for sample collection, handling and processing.

  • 9. How do the tubes support hygienic stool collection?

Each tube has an integrated spoon for simple and controlled transfer of stool into the stabilizer solution. The secure, leak-proof tube design supports hygienic handling during collection, storage and transport. The separately available Stool Catcher can be used to simplify hygienic stool collection directly from the toilet.

  • 10. Are the stool collection tubes barcoded?

Yes. The tubes are validated for downstream microbiome workflows, including 16S rRNA gene and ITS rRNA gene sequencing. They support the stabilization of bacterial and fungal DNA before DNA extraction and analysis.

  • 13. What is included with the standard Stool Collection Tube?

The standard product contains a stool collection tube pre-filled with 8 mL of DNA Stabilizer and an integrated collection spoon. The Stool Catcher is not included and is available separately.
    Available formats:

    • 50 tubes — Catalogue No. 1038100200
    • 250 tubes — Catalogue No. 1038100300

  • 14. What is the difference between the standard tube and the tube with Stool Catcher?

The tube with Stool Catcher is supplied with an additional toilet-based stool collection aid, while the standard tube includes only the pre-filled tube and integrated spoon. Both tube formats are CE-IVD certified and support room-temperature DNA stabilization for up to 3 months.
    Tube with Stool Catcher formats:

    • 50 tubes — Catalogue No. 1038100250
    • 250 tubes — Catalogue No. 1038100350

  • 15. What is the Stool Catcher used for?

The Stool Catcher is used to simplify stool collection from the toilet. It helps users collect a stool specimen hygienically before transferring the required amount into the Stool Collection Tube with DNA Stabilizer.
    Available formats:

    • 50 Stool Catchers — Catalogue No. 1038112200
