🦠In the global effort to ensure food safety, the detection of pathogens like Hepatitis A virus (HAV) plays a critical role. Hepatitis A is a highly contagious RNA virus that can spread through contaminated food and water, posing serious risks to public health. Hepatitis A is characterized by its ability to cause acute liver infection. Symptoms can range from mild flu-like illness to severe hepatitis. Common symptoms include fatigue, fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). While most people make a full recovery from hepatitis A with no long-term consequences, in rare cases it can lead to acute liver failure, which can be life-threatening. Therefore, detection of HAV in food samples is essential for outbreak prevention and consumer protection.

🧬The new InviScreen® Hepatitis A Virus Detection Kit provides a reliable solution for the detection of HAV in food samples such as berries, leafy, stem and bulb vegetables, bottled water, and bivalve shellfish. The RTP® Pathogen Kit or the InviSorb® Spin Universal Kit are recommended for viral RNA extraction. The detection method uses real-time RT-PCR according to ISO/TS 15216 specifications with a primer set targeting a conserved region across HAV genotypes.
