The InviScreen® Vegan Identification LyoKit is a lyophilized Real-Time PCR solution designed for the qualitative detection of vertebrate DNA in food samples, delivering the sensitivity and specificity required to support vegan labelling verification and food authenticity testing.
The kit includes a plant DNA detection system to support assessment of the DNA extraction efficiency and sample suitability. An internal amplification control is also included to monitor possible PCR inhibition and help reduce the risk of false-negative results. The real-time PCR method can be performed on commercially available PCR instruments with FAM, HEX/VIC, and Cy5 fluorescence channels. Under the validated conditions, the method enables the detection of vertebrate DNA traces, with a limit of detection established at 0.01% vertebrate DNA.

The kit detects DNA from vertebrate animals, making it an effective molecular screening tool for vegan label verification, vegetarian claim validation, and food authenticity testing. The assay covers all major vertebrates commonly associated with animal‑derived ingredients or cross‑contamination, including Chicken, Beef, Pork, Fish, and others. Molluscs and crustaceans are not detected. Further information about validated sample types can be found in the Instructions for Use.
No. The InviScreen® Vegan Identification LyoKit is designed for broad vertebrate-level DNA detection, not for individual species identification.
The plant detection system is an additional PCR reaction included in the kit that specifically detects plant DNA. It confirms that amplifiable DNA from plant-derived materials is present in the sample and that the DNA extraction procedure was successful. This is especially important for highly processed vegan foods, where DNA may be degraded or present in low amounts. In addition, the kit includes an internal amplification control (IAC) to monitor potential PCR inhibition. Together, these controls help minimise false negative results and support reliable vegan label verification and food authenticity testing.
